<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Due to unforeseen matters that had to take precedence over publishing the book, I have placed the entire self-publishing process on hold for now.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">This only means that I will have to come back to this at a much later date than originally anticipated. This is what happens when one doesn't or isn't prepared for emergencies.

<span style="font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: large;">So please keep me in your thoughts and prayers for eventual success.
Even through all of the fear and trepidation, I plan to make this a success. But only by the grace of God, continual prayer for guidance and the support and encouragement of my friends and family everywhere.

With my husband, Oscar, Jr. as my illustrator, we plan to make a go of this endeavor as a literary and illustrating team. So watch for my updates and then the final notification that, "It's A Book!". Because I plan to consider this a labor of love that requires the same amount of time, caring and love that makes a child.

...here we go!...terripincha66http://www.blogger.com/profile/14004961484403033796noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3253029471497403017.post-18874476779521008502010-04-20T16:02:00.004-04:002010-04-20T16:24:26.070-04:00Mind My Own Business"Why can't I just be happy with the hand that I was dealt in this life?"

Shouldn't I be satisfied with what I have? My health, family, job, car and a place to live. That should be enough right? Well that's not what society tells me. Society tells me that if I want to be able to make certain decisions regarding my health, family, job, car and place to live, then I should and must take action.

But what does that mean "take action"?

To me, it means I should and must take more personal responsibility for the hand that I was dealt in this life. I should and must look "outside of the box" that is my view of life. This is why I'm so heck bent on creating a Home Based Business of some sort that will allow my family and me a sense of security and freedom that the average employer can't offer me.

Yes there's a lot involved in creating and maintaining a Home Based Business, but therein lies due diligence. Where you have to say, "okay, I'm in control now and so I must make this work", "And if it fails, I have no one to blame but myself" - but we won't allow those negative thoughts to infiltrate and commandeer our goals.

So I intend to make it a point to become educated in the realm of creating a Home Based Business; learn from those who've made a go of it, ask for help when it's needed and network whenever possible.

If you find that you have some words of wisdom and or encouragement to share, then by all means, please do make note of it here on my blog.
(will be my very 1st children's book)I recently spoke with, well - via email - a local children's book author who was able to offer some sage advice for an aspiring author such as myself ... and here's the "gist" of it:

With her very first children's book safely ensconced in reach of the public, the author of "Dante the Dancing Goose" is well on her way, I'd say, to becoming a household name. Check out this piece I read about her at the Lakeland Local on-line;

http://www.lakelandlocal.com/2010/02/local-teacher-publishes-childrens-book/

I'd have to say that any advice from Katherine Boll, as a published author, should definitely be heeded as gospel. The lady knows what she's talking about. Hey! She's been published!! She's a success story as far as I'm concerned. And Katherine told me that, "... - it's not easy!". She's right! Because my own mother told me time and time again that, "Anything worth having or doing well is never easy". And trust me, I take the phrase "labor of love" very seriously; labor means work.

Also, Katherine reiterated the regards of copyrights, self-publishing and research. All for me to keep in mind.

http://www.dantethedancinggoose.com/index.html
WAY TO GO Katherine!

Marketing:

I mentioned to her that I actually thought about keeping the marketing local. I'm an avid proponent for keeping money in the local economy. To me, that's a WIN-WIN situation; I'm keeping the local businesses [my neighbors] employed & those local businesses [my neighbors] are supplying a need I may have. I once mentioned to my husband that I could see copies of our book, "That's Just Ducky!" displayed at say, the local Beverly's Consignment Shop off of Edgewood Dr. and South Florida Ave. or have a book signing set up at the South Gate Shopping Center on South Florida Ave. or at the Lake Morton Library.

Merchants that I frequent, I'd ask them if they'd be willing to offer times for book readings at their establishment during times when families with children visit most. I could see a quiet time during dinner, listening to an author read to the audience. Or say in a corner of a local department store, have a blanket laid out with floor seating for the kids to sit and listen while their parents shopped. Not so much as a babysitter, just a quiet time out of sorts.

Can you tell that I'm a dreamer?

The publishing time frame is something to take into consideration as well; and understandable. Nothing will happen overnight - and a processing time frame of say four to nine months is to be expected. Again, I hear myself saying this is a labor of love; nine months comes to mind in that regard. [smile]

A Website:
I actually thought of that as well. But then I wasn't sure if that was a part of the copyright gamble. Although, I have designed a website, for other reasons; at http://www.tributellc.webs.com/ - it's something for my own multi-generational family to consider and think about embarking on some day. (...and that's a whole other business endeavor...)

But http://www.webs.com/ is where you can create and maintain a website - for free. It's when you decide to upgrade your site there or do not want ads to show up is where any additional costs will be incurred.

Proof is in the pudding:

Trust me, instant gratification is not on my agenda at all. I do realize this whole publishing/self-publishing process will take time, patience, money and the love and support of my family and friends in order to achieve this endeavor. But above all else, as a Christian, I know that if I keep in my heart and mind that God has blessed me with a talent, a gift, for writing and getting along with others - then I do not intend to make a mockery of or waste this blessing.

I've subscribed to the Downtown Lakeland Partnership at http://www.downtownlakelandfl.com/
in order to stay abreast of the local economy; merchants - new and old, city plans, etc. So I will make certain to contact their offices when we're ready to move forward in order to get their feedback as well on promotions in conjunction with local merchants. And Oscar & I have a business tax ID# already established with the Polk County Tax Collectors office; once we are ready to sell items.

Katherine has become a beacon of hope for me. And I am eternally grateful to her for having taken the time to communicate to me all that she has - and yet we've never met. This is exactly why I believe in angels. For their guidance through this life in order for us to connect with people who are willing to take a chance. Katherine's advice alone is priceless.

So here's to the beginning of something wonderful!terripincha66http://www.blogger.com/profile/14004961484403033796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3253029471497403017.post-7803869674508213412010-02-19T09:47:00.016-05:002010-02-19T12:05:04.011-05:00Pedal Our Wares (a business idea)My husband, Oscar and I are very interested in a home based business of sorts. Our most recent business idea is called, "Pedal Our Wares".

We would sell various wares from a kiosk like cart that could be positioned in various ways around the downtown Lakeland (FL) area on the weekends: either at a stationary marketplace, pedaled or mobile with a small quiet motor attached. We have yet to see this creative way of selling goods to the public and would like to jump on the opportunity if available. I could only imagine the looks of surprise we'd endure as we pedaled past onlookers; potential customers.

We think it would be sheer genius to offer pedestrians, sightseers and onlookers a chance to purchase say, a soda and a bag of chips, a bottle of ice cold water or a T-shirt, towel or other piece of merchandise that references their stay in the area. It would be the talk of the town if you ask me to sell merchandise from a mobile kiosk, that just happens to be rolling by.

We'll keep looking into this idea as well as continue to brainstorm and come up with the next best thing. The family LLC board members would decide and vote on various endeavors deemed feasible; real estate investments, individual business projects, scholarships, donations, etc. The possibilities could be endless.

For example:

Q: What if a family member was about to lose their home due to a foreclosure during this tough economy and/or a job loss?

A: The family LLC could step in and purchase the home under the family LLC umbrella to allow the family member to stay in the home.

The necessary cash reserve to fund endeavors would be a combination of deposits made regularly to a bank account opened under the established name of the family LLC; available for the members to view, but with restrictions of course. Most important - no withdrawals would be allowed within the first year in order to build the initial cash reserve. Advice and input from a family accountant, family lawyer or a family member holding a business degree would be greatly appreciated.

We truly believe that this will work "if" the family can see its way to come together and build something great under an umbrella of financial stability that would benefit everyone involved; for generations to come.

By all means, this idea is nothing new or groundbreaking. It's been done throughout the years. But..."our" family has never attempted such an endeavor. And that is what's so new and exciting about it for us.

If you and your family have had success with such an idea, please let us know. Perhaps we can build on some of your ideas and advice.

Here's to a better future for us all!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Below are a few websites to view in the mean time:
http://www.score.org/ - advice from successful business advisors
http://www.llc.com/ - help to set up an LLC
http://www.irs.gov/ - keep up with tax lawsterripincha66http://www.blogger.com/profile/14004961484403033796noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3253029471497403017.post-48901557896352874342009-12-11T09:44:00.008-05:002009-12-18T16:48:56.233-05:00Christina - Cinema Productions Major"The Wedding" is a film project by Christina.
We are so proud of her dedication and hard work while she's away at college. To be honest, I’ve worked through them since my daughter was born. And that was over twenty years ago. I guess I’d have to say that the ‘flexibility’ is what I’ve always enjoyed the most. You couldn’t ask for a better way to see if a particular company was a good fit for you and vice versa; you each get to try the other out before making a commitment. Kind of like ‘getting engaged’. Come to think of it, you and the client are engaging each other on a level of conformity, longevity and compatibility. When I begin an assignment and find associates who’ve worked for that company for a number of years, I usually joke with them saying, “…it’s like a marriage if you think about it. I mean you end up spending a better part of your day here [at the job] and if you’re really committed and in it for the long haul, you take the job very serious and want to make it work. You even tend to want to bring others into the fold so that they too can enjoy the fruits of labor.” Well now that just sounds like I’m talking about a group in Utah with all that sharing going on. Not that there’s anything wrong with that. …LOL… […no offense to anyone…]
Well, anywhooo…to get back to what I was saying. Temporary agencies are, for the better part of being unbiased, great for those who just aren’t sure of their immediate future [in the workforce]. Or for those who just can’t decide what they want to be when they grow up. Whenever I’ve moved, the first place I would go to after settling into our apartment would be a local temporary agency to sign up and find work. First, the agency would have me complete the necessary application/paperwork so they can do a background check and such. Then I’d sit with a representative to interview and then test on their computer system to see where my skills lie…or don’t lie. ‘Cause you can’t fake-out those computer systems. And to be honest, why would you want to try and trick the system? It would only come back to proverbially ‘bite you on the butt’. Besides, I rather enjoy the computer system testing aspects of any of the agencies. It gives me a chance to see how I’ve improved over the years and which skills I need to polish up on. From Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Outlook to some of the more intense data bases like Microsoft Access or any of the other web based data applications out there that might be company specific. Either way it goes, you have a better chance of improving your computer system office skills through a temporary agency that offers not just the initial job placement testing, but also offers you a chance to come into their office periodically to further enhance your computer system office skills. This extra learning opportunity is definitely a ‘win-win’ situation; you get to hone your skills and the agency has a better candidate to offer a client.
Okay, do I sound like a PSA for temp agencies or what? But it’s ‘true’. Talk to anyone who’s worked through a temp agency and I bet they’ll say pretty much the same things that I’ve said here. Now keep in mind, not everyone will have the same results. That’s a given off the top. And that’s just because we’re not all the same. I’ve known other temps […that’s what we call ourselves…”temps”…] who’ve said they’ve had bad experiences on a job and didn’t want to go back to complete the assignment. And in cases like that, I must say that yes there will be times when ‘a fit just doesn’t fit’. But then you have to ask yourself “before” you accept an assignment, “…is this what I want to do right now?” Because the temporary agency does give you a chance to decline an assignment beforehand. And if the temporary agency representative is on the ball and has the complete job description in hand, then you’ll know right up front all that the assignment requires of you. I know, I know…there were times when I’ve willingly accepted an assignment, got to the site and thought to myself, “…WTH!...” or “…AYN!” But then I had to swallow my pride, think of my family and how much we need the second paycheck right now. To be totally honest, if the work is not all that bad then just bite the bullet and get through it. This is the beauty of it all. Once you complete the assignment, barring any moaning and groaning on your part, you come out the other side not only with a much needed paycheck, but [hopefully] with a better mindset of that particular company and you’ll know for future reference to never go back there again.
And always remember to NEVER bad mouth a temp agency or their clients. Because you never know who’s watching you for future endeavors. Would it be any more cliché to say, “Don’t burn any bridges that you may have to cross in the future.”? For all of the self help and positive attitude guru books out there, I say that if you keep the “Golden Rule” in the forefront of your mind at all times, then how can you go wrong.
Take Care!
Mrs. T.A. What do you believe happens to you when you die; your body, your mind, your soul. It would have to depend on your beliefs...right?
As a child, I try to remember what I was told happened to my grand mom after she died? First she was lying in her bed at home, because she was really tired and needed to rest. Then, unresponsive to us talking with her, she was taken to the hospital and lay there in the bed so she could get even more rest. And so the doctors, who know more about these things than any of us, can try to help grand mom get the rest that she needs. Finally, I started to notice that the family grownups began to gather in the hospital room and they all wanted more of the other grownups in the family to come to the hospital too.
There I was, seeing the saddening faces of everyone. All the while no one would tell me any more than, “Grand mom just needs to rest.” But in my heart, I knew that something else was going on. Something that the grownups thought I just wouldn't understand, so they decide not to explain it to me. And so I sit there quietly, unnoticed, the proverbial fly on the wall; not to mention that children were usually shooed out of hospital rooms in order to shield their tiny minds from the sadness of the moment.
Finally, mom took me by the hand and lead me out of grand moms hospital room, away from the rest of the family, to an empty waiting room. Here she tried to explain to me that even though grand mom loves me very much, it's time for her to go.
“Go where mom?”, I asked (like the innocent child that I was).
“Grand mom is going to see God honey”, Mom replies. “You know how Reverend Johns teaches us that each of us will see God someday? Well, today just might be that day for grand mom."
“But...I didn't get a chance to tell her good-bye”, I said.
“Oh baby, she knows that you love her. And she loves you very much too. We don't really need to be able to say good-bye to someone we love because we will all see each other again some day."
“But when?", I tried. "I just don't want to forget about grand mom if I have to wait too long before I see her again.”
At this point, all mom could do was take me into her arms and hold me tight. Mom just wanted me to know that I was not alone [at that moment]; that I was surrounded by a family that loves me very much.terripincha66http://www.blogger.com/profile/14004961484403033796noreply@blogger.com0
